China wants its financial institutions to go green
The Asian giant wants the financial institutions to move toward green finance as soon as possible in
order to achieve China’s carbon neutrality goals, according to the central bank governor Yi Gang who
stated so at the Boao Forum on Tuesday.
The Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning to bring the country’s climate-warming greenhouse gas
emissions to a peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, transferring the world’s second
largest economy to renewable energy, as reported by Reuters.
“We will urge financial institutions to make transitions as early as possible,” Yi said.
To support such transition, the central bank will give incentive to financial institutions, Yi stated.
