Apple defeated Samsung on quarterly smartphone shipments

For the first time in two years, the smartphone behemoth Apple has succeeded in beating Samsung on quarterly smartphone shipments, as per analysis of several industry analysts.
Apple witnessed their shipments soaring to 72.9 million units in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to Counterpoint Research, towering above the 70 million Galaxy phones sold by Samsung, as reported by CNBC.
According to Strategy Analytics, the gigantic smartphone maker was able to hold the most market share in the quarter as it sold 70.7 million units over Samsung’s 68.8 million in the final three months of 2019.
“Apple has surpassed Samsung thanks to iPhone 11 popularity and improvement in upgrade cycle from the larger base of iPhone 6S, 7 and user base,” Neil Shah who is the partner and vice president of research at Counterpoint told CNBC by email.
On Wednesday, Apple reported the earnings for the fiscal first quarter which went beyond the estimated amount. The company stated that they saw iPhone revenues climbing to $55.96 billion in the quarter, ascending 8% from the previous year.
